The Young Musicians Series is a concert series presented by the Hong Kong Cantonese Music Association specifically for young musical talents to showcase their artistic prowess. This concert invites two young prodigies from the Central Conservatory of Music to perform a selection of Chinese wind and string music for the people of Hong Kong.
Dai Ziyi is currently a first-year graduate student at the Central Conservatory of Music. She is the daughter of Professor Dai Ya, a renowned dizi (bamboo flute) performer and doctoral supervisor at the Conservatory. Dai Ziyi was the first-place winner of the 28th Taiwan Bamboo Flute Concerto Competition in 2021 and the first-place winner in the Pipe Youth A Group of the '7th National Youth National Musical Instrument Education Teaching Achievement Display Activity' in 2021.
Zeng Yujie is currently a first-year undergraduate student at the Central Conservatory of Music, studying under the guidance of Professor Xue Ke, a well-known erhu (Chinese fiddle) performer and doctoral supervisor at the Conservatory. Zeng Yujie was the champion of the Advanced Erhu Solo category at the 68th Hong Kong Inter-school Music Festival. In 2021, she won the gold medal in the Overseas Professional Youth A Group of the 'Dunhuang Cup' 6th Beijing International Folk Musical Instrument Competition, solidifying her reputation as one of the rising stars of the erhu in Hong Kong.
The concert will feature the two young musicians performing famous bamboo flute pieces such as 'Love in the Mountains and Fields', 'Orchid in the Shade Greeting Spring', and 'Love in Qinchuan', as well as erhu and gaohu (high fiddle) masterpieces like 'Legend of Marquis Zeng', 'Sunshine on Taxkorgan', and 'Love of the Pearl River'. The concert will also include classic Cantonese songs such as 'Rain on Banana Trees' and 'Interlocking'. It promises to be a memorable performance!
